About the Author
Nicholas Knight is the pen-name of Nick Andreychuk, a seasoned fiction and non-fiction writer in the genres of fantasy and horror, contributor to the official Supernatural Magazine, and author of the Official Companions to seasons 1 and 2 of Supernatural. He lives in British Columbia, Canada, and has also worked as an extra on numerous Vancouver-based television shows.

None are better than the Supernatural

For the record, I am an absolute, unapologetic, died-in-the-wool Supernatural fan. And I mean FAN! I have all the DVD's for Seasons 1-10. I have several books about Supernatural (most of which I have bought here at Amazon.com). None are better than the Supernatural: The Official Companion books. I have each book from Season 1 to Season 7. They provide a succinct synopsis of each episode along with insights from the actors (not just the two very excellent stars, Jared Padelecki and Jensen Ackles) but even from many of the actors whether in continuing roles or those who appeared for a few or just one episode). There are comments from the various directors, the show's originator, Eric Kripke, the various writers. There are sidebars describing how certain episodes came into being, the difficulties encountered and resolved in filming the many episodes, and some of the mythologies encompassed in Supernatural (and the embellishments given to them by the show's writers). I have waited for Seasons 8, 9 and 10, but they have yet to appear. It may be that there will be no more of these Episode guides but I have read and re-read Seasons 1-7 many times. The books are well worth the price for rabid Supernatural fans like me who want to know everything and anything about this remarkable television series.

SUPERNATURAL - GRAVE DISCOVERIES

For fans of SUPERNATURAL, this series of Official Companion books is exactly what it claims to be: an excellent partner to the shows themselves, sharing with the reader the behind-the-scenes work that goes into the making of this addictive TV show. This fourth volume follows the same formula as the previous three: a synopsis and discussion of every episode, a generous helping of color photos featuring the cast, plenty of black and white photos spread throughout the book, essays on the various monsters that populate the season, discussions about the show's crew, and chapters on the season's main characters (featuring comments by the actors who played them.)

This book is fun to read and author Nicholas Knight does a very good job of bringing context and depth to the material included. It's worth noting that these books do not shy away from the cast, creators, or crew taking a critical view of their work as well as sometimes praising it, which helps to add dimension to the experience of discovering what makes this show tick. You will also find a complete cast listing for every episode.

One word of caution: don't read this book until you've seen the shows. I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the fifth volume in the series. The journey of Sam and Dean Winchester continues to be a fascinating one to follow and this book adds additional layers to the paths they traverse. Enjoy!

SUPERNATURAL: THE SECRETS BEHIND THE SHOW

For fans of SUPERNATURAL, this quick read is a certain plus to add to your collection. There are lots of black and white photos of the cast and the assorted creeps they encountered throughout season one. There's also a great color photo section. Each episode is discussed in detail, highlighting both the production successes and failures encountered along the way. Including plenty of insightful quotes from the cast and production staff, this book provides the reader with plenty of answers for those things you might wonder about after watching the show.
My only gripe is that the font is a bit small and at times you find yourself straining to read some of the text and the "Did you know?" items that appear in shaded backgrounds. Even so, a small quibble for what is truly a keepsake and, no doubt, a one-day collector's item.
Delivery by Amazon was very speedy and the books were well packaged to avoid damage.

Hurry up and relax

Loretta LaRoche has an amazing ability to transform stress into laughter. I first saw one of Loretta's television specials about 15 years ago and it honestly changed my life. She taught me how to "lighten up" and to look at things in a way that would make me laugh instead of cry.
This book is just another fabulous example of Loretta's sound advice and ideas to help you live a happier and less stressful life. I loved her "party pants" story and have found myself retelling it to friends and family to make a point and make them laugh.
Loretta tells it like it is using loads of humor and memorable quotes throughout the entire book. If you need to learn how to reduce stress in your life, there isn't a more enjoyable way to do it than to read this book. Congratulations to Loretta for turning millions of frowns into laughter.

Loretta La Roche is my hero. I went to the library once and asked the librarian to give me everything she had on love, laughter and joy. That is the first day I brought Loretta home and I was so moved by her message I have been a devoted fan ever since. If someone I know seems a bit down, I will tell them they need a little dose of Loretta!

She makes me laugh till I cry. I wrote her a fan letter and she wrote back! I love this lady. She makes us laugh at our self! Whenever I hear the words, ta dah, I think of her!

I keep her book, Life is Short, Wear Your Party Pants on my night stand along with a few other well chosen books, to keep close to my heart. All her books are like reference books for me. There is a section in the back for notes and I have every inch of space completely covered. Every time I pick it up, I take something positive away with me.

Her humor delights me and sometimes, just hearing her voice (I have all her tapes) I automatically start Laughing ...which happens to be one of my favorite activities and according to Loretta it works wonders to lower your stress levels which increases your immune system and on and on!

I wish we had more people like her. Do yourself a favor and fill up your cart with whatever she has to sell, you will not regret it for a second! I own every single book, tape, cd, video and silly kit she has to offer....did I mention how much she makes me laugh?

She is one funny lady, and because of her, I wear my party pants all the time! Order her book today! Do not pass go or collect $200.

Uncannily correct!

I used this book (mine is an older version) to plot my own horoscope. From the resulting chart I then looked for a description of who I am, what my personality and characteristics are.

It's uncanny but the resulting composite description really describes me. There are things which even I have not been consciously aware of but which now make perfect sense to me.

I believe that knowing yourself is the single most important
first step before anything. And this book really simplifies this process enormously.

Excellent For the Novice or the Interested

I bought this book in the late 1960's and have read it over and over for myself and others. Mr. Goodavage makes it easy to learn about your horoscope - far easier than any other book I have read, which were enough. Now in 2011 I can say that reading back upon the book, much of what he said has come to pass. I'm glad I did pay attention to help develop my better qualities while working on my not so positive traits. I'm re-reading it to have insights into my new grandchild. Highly recommend this book! Mine is falling apart. Must be time for a newer version.

great if you're an old-timer

When I was charting natal horoscopes in the 1970's, Goodavage's descriptions were accurate and insightful for my subjects. I lost my book years ago and was glad to find another, but the charts for dates of birth stop at 1970, so it is not helpful for charting anyone younger than 42. Still, the descriptions in general are helpful if you want to learn about what makes people tick in general.

This classic samurai-era text fused Japanese swordsmanship with Zen and influenced the direction that the art has taken ever since. Written by the seventeenth-century Zen master Takuan Soho (1573–1645), The Unfettered Mind is a book of advice on swordsmanship and the cultivation of right mind and intention. It was written as a guide for the samurai Yagyu Munenori, who was a great swordsman and rival to the legendary Miyamoto Musashi.

Takuan was a giant in the history of Zen; he was also a gardener, calligrapher, poet, author, adviser to samurai and shoguns, and a pivotal figure in Zen painting. He was known for his brilliance and acerbic wit. In these succinct and pointed essays, Takuan is concerned primarily with understanding and refining the mind—both generally and when faced with conflict. The Unfettered Mind was a major influence on the classic manifestos on swordsmanship that came after it, including Miyamoto Musashi's Book of Five Rings and Yagyu Munenori's Life-Giving Sword.

About the Author

Takuah Soho (1573-1645) was a prelate of the Rinzai Sect of Zen, well remembered for his strength of character and acerbic wit; and he was also gardener, poet, tea master, prolific author and a pivotal figure in Zen painting and calligraphy. His religious training began at the age of ten. He entered the Rinzai sect at the age of fourteen and was appointed abbot of the Daitokuji, a major Zen temple in Kyoto, at the age of thirty-five. After a disagreement on ecclesiastical appointments with the second Tokugawa shogun, he was banished in 1629 to a far northern province. Coming under a general amnesty on the death of the shogun, he returned to society three years later to be, among other things, a confidant of the third Tokugawa shogun.

William Scott Wilson, the translator, was born in 1944 and grew up in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. As an undergraduate student at Dartmouth College in 1966, he was invited by a friend to join a three-month kayak trip up the coast of Japan from Shimonoseki to Tokyo. This eye-opening journey, beautifully documented in National Geographic, spurred Wilson's fascination with the culture and history of Japan.
After receiving a B.A. degree in political science from Dartmouth, Wilson earned a second B.A. in Japanese language and literature from the Monterey Institute of Foreign Studies in Monterey, California, then undertook extensive research on Edo-period (1603-1868) philosophy at the Aichi Prefectural University, in Nagoya, Japan.

Wilson completed his first translation, Hagakure, while living in an old farmhouse deep in the Japanese countryside. Hagakure saw publication in 1979, the same year Wilson completed an M.A. in Japanese language and literature at the University of Washington. Wilson's other translations include The Book of Five Rings, The Life-Giving Sword, The Unfettered Mind, the Eiji Yoshikawa novel Taiko, and Ideals of the Samurai, which has been used as a college textbook on Japanese history and thought. Two decades after its initial publication, Hagakure was prominently featured in the Jim Jarmusch film Ghost Dog. Wilson currently lives in Miami, Florida.

An unexplicated work of profound simplicity

Takuan's voice in this work provides resonance for scholars and martial artists alike. For avid readers of the Zen tradition, this book offers both contrast and compliment to Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind by Shunryu Suzuki. Most intersting I thought was his disticntion between the "mind of principle" and the "mind of technique". It stimulates meditation on our own day-to-day quality of thought and action.

A PATH TO ENLIGHTENMENT

I have been involved with the martial arts for over 25 years. Student, instructor, swordsman. I consider this book a reference tool and a source of inspiritation. My copy is worn and tattered, what more can I say.
I am sure that Musashi valued his friendship with the author. The insights into human nature and self improvement are timeless.
