Railway Adventure is Tom Rolt’s vivid and amusing tale of the small group of amateur railwaymen who, against great odds, made their dream of running their own railway come true. First established by Act of Parliament in 1865 as a narrow gauge slate railway, in 1951 it was threatened with closure and only rescued for posterity by Rolt and a small band of dedicated volunteers. The Talyllyn Railway went on to become the world’s first Heritage Railway.

The new ebook edition of Railway Adventure contains more than eighty high-resolution photographs of the line and the people and trains who worked on it. The book is delightful reading for railway devotees and lovers of the beautiful Welsh countryside which it describes so well.

The Talyllyn Railway still runs today, in a remote and beautiful valley in the Merioneth mountains, and ten percent of the price of every copy sold will be donated to the Talyllyn Railway Preservation Society.

About the Author
L.T.C. ROLT was born in Chester in February 1910 and died in 1974. He was an engineer and craftsman whose passion for Britain's industrial heritage led him to become one of the foremost historians of the twentieth century. He jointly founded the Inland Waterways Association and also wrote Narrow Boat, Red for Danger and the famous Landscape Trilogy (The History Press).

Journey of a Lifetime

A tale of incredible perseverance against the odds - a worn-down railway restored to glory by the gallantry of LTC Rolt and his fellow Talyllyn Railway Preservation Society members. The job certainly isn't easy. Dolgoch "The Old Lady" proves to be a gallant old steam engine in keeping the line running single-handedly despite moments of weakness.

Rolt paints a marvelous picture of the early days of the world's first preserved railway, highlighting the quirks and idiosyncrasies of the Welsh countryside, praising the indomitable courage of the railway's rescuers in solving any problem and maintaining a service in all conditions. An absolute necessary part of any Talyllyn fan's collection, as well as any steam enthusiast.

A very intriguing read!

A Railway Adventure was a great book. It was great to read about the origins of the Talyllyn Railway. Sometimes it goes a little of topic, but I couldn't care less. It really puts into perspective just how much the railway has changed over the years and just how much effort was put in to saving the railway A 5 star book! I don't want to give away to much though!

Great Alternative in the Study of Criminal Justice!

This anthology offers a wide perspective of criminal justice issues by experts in the field. Unlike other criminal justice anthologies, this book offers a wide variety of views about how social justice and criminal justice work, or do not work together. Many of the articles contained in the book focus on criminal justice issues that are new phenomena in American society. Most of the issues presented within the book are a great addition to the long established criminological theories that have been taught to generations of criminology students. This book would make an interesting addition to anyone interested in studying the dynamics of current criminal justice issues.

Excellent for beginners, but I suggest a more detailed SAS book as a supplement for the more in-depth details.

Easy to read for a SAS book. Good reference for the basics.

The simple stuff that is difficult to find in the
SAS manuals is right there with a quick example.
I almost always try to find my answers here first,
and I have pretty good luck. The SAS institute
should look over books like this befor releasing
their next round of manuals.

Terrible Book! save your money!

Please don't waste your money and here's why. This book does not provide enough information on Workers Compensation, Automobilw Insurance, Commercial Package Policy or Dwelling Policy. Its simply not enough information to help you pass an exam. I highly advise that you purchase a book that relates to your state and not these poorly explained books. Good luck!
