First cookbook I have ever bought!

I have never really cooked before but I spotted Donal on This Morning on ITV a few weeks ago and wanted give the cookbook a try... The book really doesn't disappoint with loads of favourites which I just never had the recipe for and then lots of stuff I had never tried before like lamb shanks and spatchcock chicken... I've basically been cooking my way through the book and loving every second of it- I would highly recommend the book and hope that you enjoy it as much as I have!

I loved the spinach salad with roasted butternut squash! It was easy and delicious. Pictures in this cook book are beautiful.

So needed!!!

The message of this book is very much needed in our day and age. The risks we equate with confronting many in our lives often causes us to stay quiet when we should not. There are moments when it is better to stay silent, to mind our own business. However, we have arrived at a point where our lack of communication is, at times, to the detriment of the one who should receive our words. The church, in particular, has taken a mediocre approach to the confrontation of sin in the lives of its congregation. While we gaze wildly at the public outside her doors, ridiculing, finger pointing and condemning the sin seen, we have turned a soft hand of discipline on those within the church body. Rather than confront, we stay silent. Our silence inadvertently condones the sin. Dr Jeff Parker shows when confrontation should happen, how to confront and discusses living a life that not only glorifies God, but also helps in leading others to a life that is blameless, ultimately allowing them to live fully & abundantly. We must learn to confront in Christlike ways to enable the church in looking as she should. To look different from the world.

A very helpful look at something missing in churches

In the context of today's American church society, I think this book is highly relevant and provides some very good and practical insights as to the issue of confronting sin. The argument of this book is that the lax attitude toward sin is one of the direct causes to the rampant immorality of our country; this cavalier view of sin is evidence of a lack of discipline, and one of the most powerful tools of discipline between believers is confrontation.

At some points, I found the language to be very repetitive, but the message was clear. One of the most helpful features of this book is the end of chapter section "Helping the Laity," although this section isn't included in every chapter (when the context necessitates).

Great Book

This book has helped me evaluate my actions and thoughts. I by nature am not very confrontational. I am seeing that there should be value in confrontation if done correctly, for the right purpose. If someone is running toward a cliff. I should be very confrontational. The truth revealed to be in this book, is that many people are headed toward cliffs of all kinds, and I need to be willing to step up and make sure they know they are running toward the cliff, and maybe even jump in front of them and scream stop. Oh! and one more thing. I need to be confronted, and I need to accept the confrontation as a good thing. I don't have to do what the confronter says, but I definitely need to evaluate my actions. This is a great book.

As founder and president of Motown Records, Gordy launched and developed the careers of many of the most talented pop musicians of our day, including Mary Wells, Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson. He here recounts how, in 1959 with a $800 loan from his family, he started the label he ultimately expanded into an entertainment empire, despite the racial prejudices he and his staff encountered. In 1988, he sold Motown to MCA for $61 million. His self-portrait, not surprisingly, is more flattering-many will consider the book an apologia-than the blistering memoirs written by several Motowners, among them Martha Reeves's Dancing in the Streets, coauthored with Mark Bego; and his former wife Raynoma Gordy Singleton's Berry, Me, and Motown. Founder of the Motown empire, Gordy has written a revealing autobiography dealing with the interplay between his private life and his recording and motion picture ventures. He begins with his childhood in Detroit and his forays into music as owner of a jazz-record store and successful songwriter for singer Jackie Wilson. Citing civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. and the auto assembly lines as inspirations, Gordy charts the rise of the Motown hit machine, which manufactured a close-knit stable of well-groomed African American performers-including the Supremes, the Temptations, and the Jackson 5-who brought a gospel-based pop to white America during the Sixties and Seventies. Throughout the book, the music entrepreneur portrays his personal life and his business as inseparably connected, including comments about his five-year affair with Diana Ross. He ends with the sale of Motown in 1988. A substantive, reasonably candid memoir from the founder of Detroit's legendary Motown Records, creator of the soundtrack of the '60s. Gordy opens in 1988, as he agonizes over the sale of his independent company to conglomerate giant MCA, but quickly flashes back to the period everyone wants to read about: Motown's Golden Age, 19601970, when Gordy and his crack team of songwriters, producers, and studio musicians (many of them affectionately portrayed here) created a series of brilliant pop records--from ``My Girl'' to ``Where Did Our Love Go'' to ``I Heard It Through the Grapevine''--that made artists like the Supremes, Marvin Gaye, the Temptations, and the Jackson Five famous. Along the way, Motown's success completed the destruction of musical segregation that had begun with the rock and soul explosion of the early 1950s. `` `Pop' means popular,'' writes Gordy on the subject of categorizing art. ``I never gave a damn what else it was called.'' His solidly middle-class, high-achieving parents were remarkably patient with his long search for a career (he was 29 when he started Motown in 1959 with an $800 loan from the family credit union), and he warmly depicts them and his siblings, many of whom came to work at Motown. A fair amount of time is also devoted to his active love life; he had eight children with five different women, including one with Diana Ross, the supreme Supreme he calls ``my star...my leading lady.'' Knowledgeable music fans will spot some selective recall on Gordy's part--he glosses over widespread resentment of Ross in particular--but for the most part he is frank about tensions within Motown and convincing in his rebuttal of charges that the company exploited its artists financially. His descriptions of the famous ``assembly-line'' process by which Motown crafted hits the way Detroit's auto companies cranked out cars shows the producers/songwriters as the primary artistic force behind the music. nothing that we really didn't already know

Berry Gordy's book has some interesting moments, but is basically more spin than anything else. He never mentions certain situations that occurred that are pretty much known by the public and had a huge impact (good and bad) on the careers of several Motown artists. Unfortunately, this book has the same feel as Diana Ross' "Secrets of a Sparrow", which was also more fluff PR than anything else. Maybe this generation believes it's best to leave certain things unsaid and if that's the case, don't bother to write a book.

A Wonderful Book You Won't Forget

Incredible story and beautifully written. Berry is a very interesting person with a terrific way to tell his story which is super funny, insightful and honest. A great, hard-to-put-down book which he wrote -- it's not a "written with the help of another author" publication. Well done Berry. I'd recommend this book to anyone who enjoys great writing. You won't forget it.

Deceptive book title

I suspect this book was given its title to reel in buyers actually looking for the book "Guess How Much I Love You", which is the well-known origin of the line. The phrase isn't even used in the text of this book, though a similar one is. It's still a cute young children's book, there's nothing wrong with it otherwise, but I think the title is deceptive.

A disappointing book.

I bought this book because of the title, since it is a favorite saying of my grandchild's mother. I was disappointed that the phrase was not even used in the story. And the story was not very well written. All in all, I was sorry I had spent money on this book.

Just about perfect

This is a children's book, but adults will enjoy giving it a read now and then. I. It is not a book about magic, but it has magical and somewhat mystical elements woven into it, seamlessly blending with a believable reality. It is good writing, plain and simple, and while the story is anything but plain and simple, it is easy to follow. The complexity is useful in furthering the story and only adds to the suspense, believability and exciting pace of the tale. Even younger children, say, 8 or 9 year-olds, will stay glued to this book like I did some 15 years ago.

The Mystery of a Mouse

The book, The Secret of Nimh, is a great book because it has mice as the main characters but it is also a mystery.

The book is about one family of mice and the mother, Mrs. Frisby, is worried because her son is sick and won't be strong enough for moving day (where they have to move because the backyard they live in will get plowed). She went to the creature that is so wise and gives good advice to everyone, the owl. The owl suggested that she ask the rats for advice and off she went. These rats are not your typical rats though. They are surprisingly smart and when Mrs. Frisby saw their home, the rats had a lot of explaining to do.

What's the rat's story? Do Mrs. Frisby and her family move safely? Do they survive? You can answer all these questions if you read The Secret of Nimh.

My favorite part of the book was when the rats told their story about their lives before they moved into the yard because a lot of answers were uncovered. Before this no one really knew about the rats and what was inside the rose bush that they lived in. All the answers were uncovered when Mrs. Frisby stepped inside the rose bush to ask advice from the rats. Mrs. Frisby even learned how her husband died.

I would recommend this book because it is easy to follow the story. The events happen one at a time so you can remember everything without getting confused. I really want there to be a sequel because at the very end it kept you hanging. Overall, I think this is a great book and I think you should read it.

An excellent fiction book of intelligent rats and mice.

A mouse Mrs Frisby is faced with danger from a plough. Mr Fittsgibbon is ploughing early and she can't leave the farm because her son Timothy has Pneumonia. She went to a mouse called Mr Ages for the medcine but as the ploughing started early the medicine had no time to perform and Timothy was not allowed to go out into the cold air. She goes to an old, wise owl for some advise and the owl tells her to go to the RATS. She befriends a crow called Jeremy and he helps her get to places that would take her alone days to get to. She finds the rats home under a rosebush. She is immediately made welcome because her husband, Jonathan Frisby, assisted in the escape of the rats from NIMH.She finds a rat called Nicodemus and he tells her about NIMH and the injections they were given which were intended to make them intelligent and slow down their aging process and it worked. He also tells her that Jonathan and Mr Ages were given the injections. The rats devise a plan to move Mrs Frisby's house to the lee of the stone. The plan works and Timothy's illness has gone. The rats leave the rosebush and all electrical appliances behind and go to live in the side of a mountain, growing their own crops and living without stealing.

Soft Computing in Water Resources Engineering: Artificial Neural Networks, Fuzzy Logic and Genetic Algorithms introduces the basics of artificial neural networks (ANN), fuzzy logic (FL) and genetic algorithms (GA). It gives details on the feed forward back propagation algorithm and also introduces neuro-fuzzy modeling to readers. Artificial intelligence method applications covered in the book include predicting and forecasting floods, predicting suspended sediment, predicting event-based flow hydrographs and sedimentographs, locating seepage path in an earth-fill dam body, and the predicting dispersion coefficient in natural channels. Prof. Dr. Gokmen TAYFUR is an associate professor in the Civil Engineering Department at the Izmir Institute of Technology where he teaches graduate courses on numerical methods in engineering, artificial intelligence methods in engineering, hydrology and hydraulics, and non-point source pollution. He also teaches undergraduate courses on numerical methods and analysis in engineering, He received his Ph.D. and MS degrees from the University of California in Davis and his undergraduate degree from Istanbul Technical University. His research interests include Surface and subsurface flows; Rainfall-runoff induced erosion/sediment transport; Solute transport in saturated and unsaturated zone; Solute transport by surface flows; Application of artificial intelligence methods in water resources engineering and water quality. He has written numerous conference and journal papers and research reports on those topics.
